|Subject: Scenic train in North York Moors, England|
The tourist train from Pickering in No. Yorkshire goes to Goathland and
Grosmont. We have taken it, and it is indeed a scenic ride. Some of the
runs are by steam engine. Goathland is very very touristy and you have a
chance to stop there for a while and buy souvenirs, snacks, etc.
However, if Peggy want to see Herriot country, this part of the No. York
Moors is not really that---it is too far east. The Herriot country is
centered more from Thirsk N. and W. into the Yorkshire Dales. We love
both areas and often rent a house in the moors for a couple weeks at a
time and are very familiar with the area.
