I'm a little behind on my e-mail, but I had to mention the Farnsworth
Museum in Rockland, Maine. The Wyeths (N.C., Andrew and Jamie) were
from that part of Maine and the Farnsworth has some wonderful things by
all of them. There are four buildings associated with the museum - a
modern museum building right on the main street in Rockland; the
beautifully restored home of the Farnsworths; the Wyeth Center, a church
renovated into a gallery space; and out of Rockland, the Olson home, of
Christina's World fame. There are also wonderful works by 18th and
19th century Maine artists and a great gift shop.
If you get to Rockland, make sure you eat at the Rockland Cafe, just across the street from the museum. The food is OK - what can you do wrong to boiled lobster and drawn butter?? - but the people watching makes the trip worthwhile. Callie in New Orleans |
