Hi Frank and Gay,

If you take the train that is called the Glacier Express, you would have to pay a supplement and reservations (at an additional cost) are required. However, be aware that there are normal trains that ply the very same route that are completely covered by the Swiss Pass. When we traveled that route, we took the regular train and didn't feel that we missed anything at all.

We started our journey to Zermatt from Chur. Although we didn't stay at the Alpenrose, we have a note that we would choose it for next time. There's an email address and a virtual tour (use your mouse to capture different angles) on the web site: http://www.reconline.ch/alpenrose/ Be sure to ask for a room on the south side, facing the Matterhorn.

Hope that helps.
