|Subject: Re: NC advice for New Member|
Previous postings have confused South Carolina (Charleston, Beaufort
and Middleton Plantation) for North Carolina. Marriott properties on
the beach do not exist in North Carolina. Closest I know of is in
Wilmington which is ~5 miles from Wrightsville Beach and ~2hrs from
Raleigh. There is a string of nice, quiet islands south of Wilmington
(Oak Island, Holden (our favorite!) and Ocean Isle) which have
moderately priced houses and Condos for rent. North of Wilmington
about 2hrs is Emerald Isle, Morehead City, Beaufort (pronounced
bo'fort) and Cedar Island. You can take a ferry from Cedar Island
over to Ocracoke Island which is the southern end of the Outer Banks.
From there another ferry to Hatteras Island and ~2hrs drive north to
As far as history on the Coast...all of the above(especially
Wilmington, Beaufort and the Outer Banks) have much to offer. Search
for North Carolina tourism on the web for more info.
Also...watch the weather closely! September and October are active
tropical storm and hurricane months.
Hope you have a good time in North Carolina! Mark and Mary Ann in Concord, NC
