I collect cemeteries. It all started many years ago when we were
spending summers in Vermont; the small cemeteries were located in such
scenic, peaceful spots that we started wandering through them. That led
to lots of grave rubbings, historical research, and then doing
talks/shows of rubbings for various Vermont historical societies. Since
then, wherever we are, I am drawn to small cemeteries---places where I
can contemplate, wonder, and try to piece together lives of past times.
It is amazing what we learn by talking with other people in cemeteries
and with locals in villages (if we can speak the language). Even if
not, we find that cemeteries and burial customs differ greatly in
various countries and it is just another way to get an insight into the
areas we visit. Also, it is relaxing. Pat in Baltimore
