Hi Patrick,
if you read spanish, there is a good book from an spanish journalist, Gabriel Pernau (well,
in fact there are two books : A China en bicicleta and Cuba en bicicleta). I don´t think
they have been translated into english or any other language.
The first one tells the story of how he went from Istanbul to Peking following the Silk Route, on his faithful bike. Not only interesting, but also very funny. Two years later, in the fall of 1998, he headed to Cuba, to ride from Santiago de Cuba to Maria la Gorda, from one corner of the island to the other. He tried to stay at private homes. It is a very interesting vision of a changing society, and Mr Pernau´s naïveté can sometimes be amazing and very, very funny. Cuba is something on my pending list, specially the old town of La Habana and the Malecon (although it is said that Cadiz is quite similar to La Habana, so it can be a small replacement :)) ). Friends of mine have been looking into this hotel for their honeymoon : http://www.cuba.tc/Havana/CuHavInglaterra.html Kind regards, Covadonga Bilbao - Spain |
