Subject: re: Rome visit |
Hello
I don't know of any hotels on Rome - I stayed with relatives - but I do recommend a visit to Ostia Antica, a Roman ruin not far from the town. It is amazing, in someways better than Pompeii as it was a working city. You can see the one of the very first fast food shops and apartment blocks! We spent a whole day there. I would not bother with Ostia itslf. Also, near the airport is the Necropolis. Beware - it's hard to find as it is in between fields and was poorly marked 12 years ago. The beauty of both these sites is that they will not be crowded, even in August and so you can immerse yourself in the history of the place. But bring food and drink as there was very little there in the late 80's. If you want to spend the night on the Amalfi coast I recommend the town of Minori - small but friendly. And don't miss out on Paestum, where you will find the best preserved Greek temple in Europe. It was used in Jason and the Argonauts where they rescue an old man from the Harpies - sorry - brain dead this morning! Regards Linda M - UK |
