|Subject: Re: grand canyon and sedona, suggestions please|
I recently returned from a trip to northern AZ. On my trip I went to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. It is more remote than the South Rim -- I loved it. I took several of the short loop trails and ate lunch looking out the window of the lodge dining room at the breathtaking expanse.
Actually, I am writing this about John's suggestion on Oak Creek Canyon just south of Flagstaff. It is a great drive. However, because of the extreme dry conditions and fire hazard, it may still be restricted. When we went through (June 23rd), we were stopped at the entrance by park police and given a brochure and warnings not to stop along the way. The brochure outlined some stiff penalties. All the roadside stops along the way were closed off and there were park police monitoring them. The drive was still beautiful and worth it even if we couldn't stop.
