Subject: Re: Disappointing Destinations |
Some destinations are supposed to be wonderful but don't appeal to me. It
may be, as Gail suggests, weather or in some cases, perhaps jet lag. For
example, on my most recent trip, we day tripped to Amsterdam and found it
rather pallid compared with the other cities we saw. The canals weren't as
attractive as Bruges or Venice; the architecture wasn't as colourful as
Brussels Grand Place, Haarlem or Gent.
And dare I confess, I am not charmed by Florence. I have been there three times on day trips only. The palazzos are tightly hemmed without vistas (except the charming view from Piazza Michelangelo). Too many tourists and traffic! Yet I loved Rome! Does it need a stay of at least a few days to warm up to it? Frances Toronto, Canada |
