As an ex Brit (who is in UK every month) I have to agree that UK prices have risen enormously over the last 5 years.
Partly because of the strong pound, but also due to unreported creeping inflation !
A few years ago clothes, shoes etc were cheaper in UK.
Today, there is little I can buy more cheaply in UK. I only buy English specialities I can not buy here in Languedoc, France.
Items that may be cheaper are -
breakfast cereals tea bags malt vinegar branded foodstuffs like Branston pickle, HP sauce, marmite etc
er, thats about it !
Maybe when the pound weakens, things will change
