Subject: Re: Notes on SW trip.
Greetings : We think the black canyon of the Gunnison is almost as spectacular as the Grand Canyon, tho much smaller. It is a short drive from Montrose. The trip over Cottonwood pass, going west from Buena Vista Colorado is wonderful. If you make Colorado the last part of the trip, the Aspen trees may be starting to color-- a sight never to forget. The trip to Aspen over Independence Pass is great, as well, begins just north of Buena Vista Colorado. The trip from Silverton to Durango also beautiful, with many camp grounds tucked in the valley. Hope you have fun! Just remembered a lesser known park in Utah is Cedar Breaks, north of Zion, is great and not so crowded. Be advised, you can no longer take a vehicle into Zion due to amount of traffic. Bryce Canyon is great, as well, but lots of traffic there. It is still very hot in San Antonio, but it is a great city with lots of history and attractions, more enjoyable in the spring and fall, we think. E. in Texas
