Subject: Re: Pacific Coast Highway Trip Planning
Dear KS and Family,

You have already received some terrific advice on places to stay and things to do. Let me add just a couple of other suggestions:

1) On the drive up, unless it is raining so hard that you cannot see, you really should take the 17 Mile Drive around the Monterey Peninsula. There is a small fee, but it provides access to spectacular scenery. If you are really lucky, you might be able to see whales migrating south just off the coast. Here is a link with a description and some photos.

2) I don't know the ages of your children, but they might enjoy walking around the campus at Stanford just up the road in Palo Alto. Here are links on student-led tours and other suggestions for places to see on campus:

I would also recommend the short but brisk hike up behind campus to the radio telescope locally known as The Dish. The views on a clear day are spectacular.

Have a great trip!
