Hello Laptop Users:
Most laptop power supplies (the thing inside that steps down the house current to the low voltages used by the computer) are capable of using both the 110V in the US and the 220V used nearly everywhere else. It should be automatic on newer laptops, but I have seen some with a switch. Just in case, read the manual. I usually just take a plug adapter to allow the US plug to use the various European receptacles. I would not use a stand alone converter to change the 220V to 110V and then power the computer. Like the other response here, I too have seen them go up in smoke after continuous use and it really isn't necessary.
