You can look into these hotels, although some of these prices are from last year:
Ameritania: 230 W. 54th St., between Broadway and Eighth Ave., 212-247-5000 or 888-664-6835 A favorite of young, hip international tourists, the Ameritania (home of the groovy Twist Lounge) has rooms with queen-size beds for $99 on weekdays, $118 on Friday and Saturday nights.
Herald Square Hotel: 19 W. 31st St., between Fifth Ave. and Broadway, 212-279-4017 The Herald Square's brand of minimalism isn't exactly Ian Schrager's, but if all you need is a centrally located, no-frills place to sleep, you've got a deal. $99; double room, $120; triple room, $130.
Hotel Wolcott: 4 W. 31st St., between Fifth Ave. and Broadway, 212-268-2900 Another Garment District bargain: Through the fall, rates are $99 to $129 or $150 through $180, depending on the week.
Banana Bungalow on Broadway - New York City. 250 West 77 St. Reception: (212) 769-2441; 800-6-HOSTEL With 1705 rooms it's the largest BW in the world. Great ambiance with key location in the center of NYC. Prices start at $99.
Gershwin Hostel 7 East 27th St.; 212-545-8000 This funky little hostel is the best kept secret in NYC. It's cute and kitschy and rates start at $99/night. While you're there, be sure to check out the art gallery, living room, and Red Room Bar.
Consulate Hotel 224 W 49 St.; 800-346-8006 In the heart of the theatre distict. Rooms start at $85.
Portland Square Hotel On a budget? This small midtown hotel's rates are hard to beat. 132 W 47th St Phone: (212) 382-0600 Fax: (212) 382-0684 The pink lobby and hallways can be a bit disconcerting, and it feels more like a YMCA than a hotel, but the location is convenient to Times Square, theaters and restaurants. Recently renovated, all 136 rooms (including some quad rooms) have in-room safes and color TV. Budget or no budget, the city is the same. PRICE ($60 - $160)
Good luck, Robin
