Subject: Travels in Australia
Hi Sally, In my opinion, Sydney to Cairns is too great a distance to drive when you only have 3 weeks in Australia. For most people it would take 3-4 days of solid driving, on our busy Pacific Highway, during Easter School holidays, possibly in wet conditions in Queensland. Cairns is a fabulous holiday area, only 3 hours flight from Sydney. Once there, you will have access to the Barrier Reef, Port Douglas, the fantastic Sky-Rail, and some beautiful drives thru the Cairns hinterland. Accommodation is bountiful, we always stay at Reef House at Palm Cove, just a bit north of Cairns. After a week or so in the tropics, it will still leave you some time to explore Sydney, pop up the coast to the Hunter valley (vineyards) or the Blue Mountains areas If you would really like to do some driving, perhaps limit yourselves to Sydney- Brisbane. This is just a 12 hour drive and there are some sensational beach areas on this coastline, i.e. Gold Coast, Byron Bay, Coffs Harbour etc. Hope this helps, from Sunny Sydney Michelle
