Hi, Debbie... if you're on a limited budget, you may want to stay in one of
the Neighborhood Inns. We stayed in the Majestic last summer....not real
sure how close the EL is to the hotel, but the bus stop is very close --
about half a block. You could call the hotel and ask. We took the bus
everywhere, using a CTA pass -- which can be purchased online. The hotel
isn't luxurious, but it's clean and comfortable, and the price was very good
for Chicago. Breakfast is included... not fancy, but adequate -- little
containers of Dannon yogurt, bottles of juice, sweet rolls, and boxes of
cereal, coffee and tea. We usually walked over to Einstein's Bagels or
Starbucks, which was about 3 or 4 blocks away, to buy tea, though, as the
water in the hotel was never hot enough to brew tea, no matter what time it
was. I suspected that they just put hot tap water in the insulated pots.
My husband said the coffee was fine, though. Our room was small and very
simple, but the bathrooms were very nice, and there were lovely terry cloth
robes, and we just loved the neighborhood. The hotel is located very close
to Wrigley Field -- it was about a 10 minute walk. It's not too far from
Belmont -- we walked back to the hotel from Belmont at night and felt safe.
It was quite a long walk, though :-) Quicker to take the bus. The hotel is
located about half a block from the lake, and there's an underpass, so you
can walk over to the park along the lake.
