|Subject: Re: What do you think??? days in Rome or???|
Hi, Fernando gave a tentative itinerary and asked various questions
about a forthcoming trip to Italy.
It's difficult to make a really bad choice. One thing I would not do is stay in Milan, except for perhaps the last night (with apologies to Marco de Angeli). Como is so much more scenic and the hotels far less expensive than Milan. However, if you are leaving from Malpensa on an early AM flight, you will need to take a somewhat expensive cab (around $60, I believe) from Como since buses do not start running until relatively late (you won't have problems with the Milan Central Station bus to Malpensa). However, the lower cost and better scenery of Como hotels and restaurants makes it more than worth it. If you are leaving from Linate, its even trickier leaving from Como as the trip from Como is longer.
With regard to the questions you asked. There are multiple possibilities from Florence. In addition to Siena, don't forget San Gimignano and, though we have mixed reactions, Lucca and Bologna.
Also, if you stay another day in Venice, you have the possibilities of side trips to Padua, Bassano del Grappa, Verona, and Vincenza (my favorites in descending order, save that I have not been to Vincenza yet).
As Lisa in Chicago so aptly noted: That is the problem with Italy. No matter how many times you visit, there is always something to see or see again.
