Subject: Re: Christmas in Venice... any ideas???
Hello,

For all you Ziners coming to Italy on Christmas time, a special tradition is the Nativity scene (presepe in Italian) you can find inside almost any Catholic church. From a simple scene with the baby Jesus, Joseph and Mary, to the very complex landscape views of the hills and villages from the Neapolitan tradition, to the most sophisticated with moving characters and variable lighting. Different, but coming from the same tradition, are the live ones with real people dressed with costumes, acting or singing. If you wonder where all this come from, the tradition says it was San.Francesco the first one to celebrate the Nativity by reconstructing the scene inside a simple cave, back in 13th century in Assisi.
