Dear Debbie and fellow Ziners:
Paris cheap? Well, I guess it depends on how you look at it...
We went this August and stayed at a two star hotel (Hotel Veronese) which was, indeed, cheap (70 Euros / Double / with breakfast / full bath) but we found everything else more expensive than we had expected. Once we moved from the inner court room which was noisy and tiny to the an outside - towards the street w/a semi-balcony room we enjoyed our stay and the personal attention we got from the English speaking front desk staff, particularly Agnes. The hotel has a web site and is a much better deal than its equivalent 2 star hotels.
We were only two blocks from the metro, Place D'Italie, 1 block from a cyber cafe, 1 block from a supermarket and walking distance from my favorite street in Paris: Rue Mouffetard (a market by day and bustling dinner place at night - something like the Latin Quarter but without the excessive craziness).
Airline: We took Lufthansa which offers fabulous deals on the web and the airline is so superior to others that I have flown that I am now a fan.
Paris is a city I fell in love with regardless of price. The people friendlier than expected. A city I will return to!
