Kirk and I love to go to cities in the winter. Last year it was Florence,
leaving here Christmas night and spending two wonderful weeks in an Oltrarno
apartment. Loved walking around, wrapped up against the cold, enjoying
concerts in cold churches, sipping mulled wine or steaming cappucinos to
stay warm.
This year we're taking his Mom, leaving Christmas night once again. She has
never been outside of the US, and, being an artist, is eager to experience
Florence. What a joy it will be to introduce her! This time we have an
apartment right across from the Duomo (hope those campanile bells don't wake
us too early!).
We also love Paris in the winter, and Brussels and even little Brugges.
We like to save the countryside for other seasons, when we like to be out
enjoying the fields and flowers. Cities are great any time of year.
So, John, no snow and ice, but it'll be cold - and we'll enjoy the
less-crowded museums and churches of beautiful Florence.
