I planned, along with Travelziners' help, a wonderful trip to Vienna in
October which I have just completed...
I lived with my son and his family and just enjoyed everyday life in this
beautiful city...
However I did long to see the Alps and so we took off for a weekend to the
lake district just southeast of Salzburg. Halstatt is built right into
the side of the mountain along a crystal clear lake...The town is 7000 years
old and the area boasts the worlds oldest salt mine which has a fascinating
tour. The tour is fun for everyone because you are transported into the
earth on the worlds longest slide which is an amazing ride for all ages.
The Alpine scenery is incredible, the lodging quite reasonable and the food
delicious. We stayed at Gasthoff Zauner...a lovely room for 2 adults and 2
children complete with bunk beds for the kids with breakfast included was
110 Euros. I had a single room with a terrace and an absolutely incredible
view for 45 euros. I noticed that the train runs here from Vienna although
we had rented a car.

I would be happy to share details with anyone who is interested.
