WWII memorial in a day?? or do I need an overnight??
It is possible to see the WWII memorial museum in a day. You can take a train from Paris, St. Lazare station to Caen in a little over 2 hours. There are car rental agencies across the street from the train station. The museum is in Caen & then it's a short drive to the coast where you can tour the landing beaches. I would, however, recommend you spend a night in Bayeux which has a couple good museums & also has the Bayeux tapestry which is William the Conquerer's account of his Battle of Normandy from 1066. Bayeux has a good Gothic cathedral & at least one great restaurant.
I've stayed in Bayeux twice & would go back in a flash.
