I complained about airlines that don't let you reserve seats in advance. Most do and usually honor the assignment. But one very famous airline (a so called model for the way airlines should be run GASP!) does not.
I remember traveling on them with my wife and 2 small children. Due to traffic we arrived late to the airport and got a very high pass number to get on the plane. By the time we boarded only a few scattered seats remained. It was impossible to seat our kids next to us.
I would have gladly paid a few dollars extra to get advanced seat assignment so we would be able to seat together.
