|Subject: Re: Florence day trips|
Dear Denise and Barry
We spent the good part of a week in Lucca and I think you will enjoy a visit there. But the train seems to be a better option from Florence to Lucca. There are lots of trains and the ride is MUCH shorter (about 30- 45 minutes, I think). The train station in Lucca is very close to one of the entrances to the walled city. I believe Siena is just as accessible by bus from Florence as it is by train, but experience tells me that the train is a better option to Lucca!
A tip or two for Lucca: it is a great shopping town, but the most interesting shops are in the Piazza del Anfiteatro. If you have time, do try to rent a bicycle or take a stroll around the top of the walls. I wish we had done this more frequently during our stay. The duomo is wonderful inside.
I hope you have a great time, and I can't wait to hear your tips upon your return. We leave on Feb.23.
Many thanks, Debbie
