|Subject: Weekend in New York|
Well Adva and I just returned from a lovely weekend in New York. No place like Manhattan at Christmas...well maybe Bethlehem or the North Pole but the shopping is better in Manhattan!
We booked the trip back in September and it was a good thing. We found a rate of $139/night at the Ramada Eastside (Lexington and 30th St.) I looked a rates a few days before departure and the were more than double this for anything in Manhattan. The hotel is small and old but was clean enough. We were going for price and location and it delivered both of these.
We took the advice of Al (Sonoma, CA) and had dinner our first night at Park Bistro - http://www.parkbistro.com -. It happened to be Adva's birthday and we were pleased with the service and food. In the tradition of a French bistro the tables are close together. Actually a little too close together given the volume New Yorkers like to use when speaking!
We did all the requisite windows (Macy's, Bergdorf-Goodman, Lord & Taylor). Wandered through Greenwich Village and Soho. Then to Madison Ave on the upper eastside for mid-afternoon coffee and cake. I can't remember the name of the place but since we were there with another Ziner and her husband...Dawn can you chime in with this?
We didn't do anything grand but nonetheless we had a grand time just wandering and catching up with friends we hadn't seen in a few months.
For those of you who have read anything I have written regarding an airline I am going to break form now. Kudos to Continental Airlines for making it simple to re-arrange our return flight at the last minute.
Happy Holidays, Jude
