Subject: lake district
Hello! Last July we stayed in near Coniston in the Wheelgate Country House Hotel. Coniston is a bit less touristy then Windermere. The Wheelgate stands by itself and you can walk down to Coniston Water, could probably walk into Coniston except the roads have no footpath so make such an adventure a bit hazardous. If you put the name of the property into a search engine it will find a reference for you in one of the general Coniston web sites. The Lake district is small so you can get all over it easily, some of the roads round the hills are a bit of a challenge. The Wheelgate house dates from 1640 so tall people have a problem with doorways. Extremely nicely furnished and an excellent breakfast and a bar too! Regards Margaret in Melbourne, Australia
