Subject: Re: English countryside in a week to 10 days
Hi Russell,

just some ideas:

- concerning landscape: north west Wales (Snowdonia), Peak District, Yorkshire - gardens: there are many, but my favorites at the moment are (for the typical English landscape gardens) Stourton or Sheffield Park Gardens and for the more gardener-like-type (chamber gardens) Hidcote Manor Garden - towns like Chester or York - villages that have no names but just come round the next curve on the road

so many nice places are there - but I tend no NOT visit small villages that are well-known any more... - and then there are always special things that I'm interested in: I was very impressed with the Coventry cathedral (being a German myself this was important for me), I like to buy little (!) things at Wedgwood, an afternoon at the Albert Dock in Liverpool was nice, the Manchester Royal Exchange is one of the most interesting theatres (round theatre!) I've seen (and watched King Lear there), Wales castles are really gothic, I like the Wells cathedral including the sunday services there and so on and on and on...

If you've decided about the area my memory might bring out more. ;-)
