|Subject: Help with Italy trip plan|
We will travel to Italy for a six weeks stay from April 4, to May 17. I would appreciate any comments on our itinerary. Our plan is to rent an apartments for one week at each location, and use as a base for exploring the surrounding areas.
Since my husband does not want to drive in Rome or Florence, and we are leasing a car, the trip plan is not as seamless as I would like.
Week 1 - arrive in Florence by air. Week 2 - train to Rome. At the end of our stay we will pick up our leased car at airport. Week 3 - Drive to accommodations near Assisi, Umbria Week 4 - Montepulciano Tuscany Week 5 - San Gimignano Tuscany Week 6 - Drive to Milan to drop off car. Take train to Venice for our last weeks stay. Fly home from Venice.
I want to spend time exploring many of the towns in Umbria and Tuscany without having to drive to far. Am hoping it will be easy to visit the Chianti wine route from San Gimignano. Also want to visit Todi, Assisi, Perugia, Detura, Spoleto, Montefalco, Cortona, Graves, Castellina, Volterra, Siena, Pisa (probably a day trip by train from Florence. Will also take time to drive the white roads in Umbria and Tuscany exploring the small towns and hamlets.
Does this itinerary make sense? Since this is our first time driving in Europe we want to enjoy the experience as much as possible.
Thank you, and Happy New Year to all.
