Subject: Re: Amalfi Coast
Hi Etta I would vote for renting a car for a day or two to enjoy the Amalfi Coast. We took the trains from Rome to Sorrento and used that as a fabulous place for a base for Capri, Pompeii, Herculanuem, Vesuvius, etc. We had planned to take a bus to Amalfi coast, but our hotel owner in Sorrento talked us into renting a car for 2 days. Are we glad we listened to her. We were able to stop at all of the overlooks, explore areas that we would not have even seen from the public bus. We drove up, up to Monte Pertuso, where we hiked and viewed incredable vistas of Positano far below us. We drove and easliy parked in Ravello. While driving was somewhat nervewracking (for me, not my husband who was driving), you can stop often to enjoys the views rather than zipping by them on the busses. We also found some other areas on the Sorrento peninsula to drive (Marina Cantone, for one) that were beautful, quiet, and memorable. We would not have seen any of this without the car.
