Subject: Re: Milan Hotels (with apologies)
Dear Don:

In May of 1997, we booked a Rick Steve's one-star choice, Hotel Speronari, because it is perfectly located, safe, and fairly quiet. We were there for Faust at La Scala. To discover the street of food shops only steps around the corner was sheer food heaven.

Since La Scala is closed for restoration, I'll not likely return to Milano until the opera house reopens. But I know where I will stay if I do return: Hotel Spadari al Duomo. It sits in the heart of food paradise. Peck's rosticceria, Peck's gourmet grocery, and Peck Snack Bar. Via Spadari is the street of wine shops, a famous bakery, and more. Two blocks to the Duomo. You can find it described in Fodor's Hotel and Country Inns of Character and Charm, Charming Hotel Guides, and in Rick Steve's Italy under Splurge..

Have a lovely time. Why the apologies?
