Hi, Lucy,
Have you been to Iceland? It is unlike anywhere else I've ever been, although perhaps culturewise it's closest to Scandanavia. Icelandic is a beautiful but difficult language, and most speak enough English to help you out a bit. This history is fascinating and the scenery is incredible. We rented a car and drove around the island in about three weeks stopping here and there. We didn't see nearly all we could have, and I'd love to go back another day. That being said, when I can afford it, I'd like to do a trip where I fly into Iceland, drive to the east coast, take the ferry to the Faroe Islands, spend some time there, ferry to the Shetland Islands, spend time, ferry to the Orkney Islands, and then down into the highlands of Scotland.
