|Subject: Re: Prague / Budapest Accommodations and Archives|
I was in Prague a few years ago and here are some accommodations I found.
Hotel U Krize, Ujezd 20, 110 00 Prague 1, Czech Republic. Tel.: 4202/533326; fax: 4202/53443. Located in the Lesser Town--Castle side of river, few minutes walk to Charles Bridge. Many great little restaurants nearby including hotel's gourmet restaurant that is very good. Housed in a 16th century building the hotel opened in 1995 after a complete inside reconstruction. Has 16 double rooms and six suites. Parking under the hotel. Single: $66-$85; double: $70-$94. Breakfast included.
Betlem Club Hotel, Betlemske namesti 9, tel 42 2 242 16 872, fax 42 2 242 18 054 , its location is tops, just opposite from the Bethlehem Chapel . Rooms are comfortable with all the modern conveniences and good bathrooms. The building is a remodeled old building in the historic Betlemske namesti in the heart of the Old City. Breakfast is very good and it is served in a XIII century Gothic cellar. This is a family run hotel neat and comfortable and very reasonable.
Apartment rented by Dr.Stania Weigova, Na Porici 8, 1100 00 Prague 1, phone/fax 011-4202-232-3203. Has apartments in her building (up 2 ½ flights of stairs) as well as other buildings with elevator, from Single $22 - $30, double $27 - $35; all located in old city. She is located in Republic Square. Stania is also a wonderful guide ($8 an hour), a former journalist, knows the history of Prague and country very well and can solve just about any problem you may have during your stay. Also offers airport transfers for about $15.
Hotel Central (Rybna, 8, tel +420-2-24 81 27 34, fax +420-2-232 84 04). The location was very good in the old town, a couple of blocks away from the old town square (where the Tyn church and the city hall are). It was also a couple of blocks away from the square where the Czech Airlines (CSA) offices are and where the shuttle bus from the airport stops, so it was quite convinient to get to/from the airport. The hotel was OK, definitely not luxurious. Rooms were not very big nor furniture was very new; but it was clean. Continental breakfast, included in the rate, was also OK.Price less than $75.
