Last year I was a bit pressed for time in order to call them, and I asked my hotel if they could do it for us. They did it promptly (and without extra charges). I just had to tell them our dates, and our desired time. They emailed me back with the reservation number, but they also had it when we arrived to Florence (in case we had forgotten to bring it with us).
