|Subject: Re: Provence... Lodging and home base suggestion and more|
I can recommend using Lourmarin as a home base. It was well located for our forays to Roussillon, Gordes, Senaque, Bonnieux, ... We were there in May 2001.
I was given the recommendation from a lady from the web site http://www.provencebyways.com/ who was also posting in rec.travel.europe when I frequented there...
Francoise Herry's B& B Les Cordelieres / La Cordière We had two lovely rooms - the one I stayed in had an ensuite bathroom with old fashion bathtub and separate modern shower and toilet with queen bed, TV, and an additional small refrigerator and microwave. (We had thought it was twin bedded but the bed was so huge we managed anyway!) Prices were : 350 FF and 400 FF per night (price per room) - large continental breakfast included. Françoise Herry FFherry Impasse de la Cordière 84160 - Lourmarin Phone : 04 90 68 03 32 Bookings: We sent a deposit cheque. The cheque is returned in person after full payment on departure.
We were usually lucky enough to find a street park but there is a parking lot a short walk away...
In Lourmarin we ate at: Michel Ange - French Restaurant - We ate here on two occasions! Both times we all had the 120FF plat for 3 courses + aperitif (wine extra). The service and food were of excellent quality on both occasions.
We also ate at La Ratelier - good pizza place - reservations essential - Francoise got us a table at late notice :)
We also visited the wonderful market, had coffee and people watched and visited the galleries and shops.
