Subject: Re: Chateaux
Hello Janet and all

when visiting the Loire valley for a few days, time and distance require careful planning. The chateaux are open from 9.30-10 in the mirning to 5-6 pm. The time you spend on each one is up to you, but I find it hard to visit more than two on the same day because of distance and traffic conditions. Chenonceau, Azay le Rideau and Blois are the most important, well kept but also the largest and more crowded. You can't of course miss them. I'd also add Amboise, with a very scenic view down and the nearby Leonardo da Vinci's house. If you're short on time, you can see just the gardens at Vilandry and skip Usse, very nice from the outside but too expensive (12 euros for seeing the history of Sleeping Beauty). We visited a few more in the area but we missed many others, again because of time and also because, eve if you're a castle lover, you can't spend too many days visiting only chateaux before they start looking all alike!
