|Subject: Use your Mileage Plus points as fast as you can!|
Sadly, things are not looking good for United Airlines (UAL) and thus I make the following recommendation. As the subject heading says, if you have any Mileage Plus reward miles or points then I'd suggest you try your best to use them as fast as you possibly can.
For those of you who don't know me, I work for a major airline and have worked in many, many roles and areas. One of those is as an analyst.
For those of you who would like more information as to why I feel so strongly about this I'll happily reply. Of course don't just take my word for it though, Forbes.com just last week published an article about UAL entitled Deathwatch.
There have already been amazing changes in the airline industry and many more are quickly coming - Iraq war or no Iraq war.
My expectation is that UAL will be liquidated by late March or April at the latest. Sad but true. And yes, the government will allow it to happen. Every major carrier, except Southwest (who I don't work for but admire) is susceptible to filing chapter 11 bankruptcy - depending on how their unions respond to the changes that have taken place in the market. Hopefully, the pending liquidation of UAL will be a substantial wake up call.
