I'm very interested in the aspect of getting tickets on a Star Alliance Airline too. I also have been planning to use Air New Zealand to book a reservation to get ticket that I would have to take advantage of those miles. I'm close to enough miles. I had not thought about the fact that maybe Air New Zealand or others wouldn't honor it if UAL went under. Hope to hear more about this from those in the know.
