Hi Ginny,
As an ex-Calgarian who used to spend a great deal of time in the Rockies - my favourite spot is Emerald Lake (just over the Alta/BC border after Lake Louise, near Field). Everywhere is crowded at that time of year but Emerald Lake is usually a little less so than Lake Louise. The lodge has been updated since I first stayed there in 1973 and I've been there many times since. It's absolutely beautiful and the food in the main lodge restaurant is fantastic (well - the last time I was there was 5 years ago but ... I assume that the resort company has upheld it's high standards). Check out: http://www.emeraldlakelodge.com/eml/index.php Another special favourite is Lake O'Hara http://www.lakeohara.com/ It is much more remote and, thus, more peaceful but this is incredibly popular and books up fast. Worth a try, though. If they are booked - try Cathedral Mountain Lodge which is close to Emerald Lake. We stayed there when it first opened and were very impressed. http://www.cathedralmountain.com/ Have a great trip! Judy in Hong Kong |
