Subject: Lyon
Hi Sherry,

Linda and Don's travelogue was very useful to us when we went to Lyon. I highly recommend to read it, it is in our files. Also may I suggest you to go either to www.lyon-city.org or www.mairie-lyon.fr both official sites for the city of Lyon. There you can find out about several promotions including Bon week end a Lyon. Some cities in France, like Lyon and Dijon have week end promotions organized by the city ( by the Mairie de Lyon or de Mairie of Dijon) that among other things gives you a free night during week ends. You stay two days and get one free .More than fifty hotels participate in all categories. We chose the Hotel Royal, a classic at Place Bellecour, phone 78 37 57 31. A very chic 4 stars. We splurged with a room de luxe, and it was worth it. Having one night free helped a lot. For an outstanding brunch on Sundays I recommend the Hotel Cour des Loges in the Vieux Lyon. In Lyon there are dozens of great restaurants, and charming bistros and the famous, La mère ...so and so, one of them is La mère Vittet,at Cour Verdum. Of course the most famous of them all, and some kind of a must, is Paul Becuse, some kilometers out of town but easy to reach. The concierge at the Royal will arrange for everything should you choose to go there. It is worth it. The Citadines are a chain of aprt hotels, they are simple but fine. They are all over France and+. You are supposed to do the housekeeping and they have a complete little kitchen. What I like less is their bathrooms. It is an option. Anyway I am telling you about the Bon Week End deal because it is so good. Are you going by train to Lyon. ? If so be aware, the details are in the Travelzine files, that it is cheaper to buy the tickets directly in France. You can buy them by calling directly to the French railway system and pay with a credit card and the tickets will be waiting for you at the Railway Station. In France you must show the same Visa with which you bought by phone. This is mandatory. Hope all this helps. Graziella Miami Beach.
