Subject: Re: La Gare, in the 16th
Hi Sandy, I like La Gare very much. Food wise, it won't knock your socks off, but it's a very comfortable, friendly place with simple solid basic french food. You'll see a lot of locals, with and without the kids, dining there. It's reasonably priced. The 16th is not as touristy as some other areas because they don't have tons of hotels - though they do have some very charming ones. Rue de Passy is a very nice shopping street and the Franck & Fils department store is a lovely one to shop in - though not huge like Galeries Lafayette or Bon Marche, etc. If you'd like a knock your socks off dining experience in the 16th, have dinner at Astrance - but book one month in advance. It's worth the effort, IMHO. It's pricey but worth it, IMHO. TSE is the hot, new trendy place now that Buddah Bar is passe and Bon is closed. I enjoyed their bar and their food. La Petite Tour is also a popular one in the 16th. While I have no complaints about it - the food, decor and service are lovely - I find it overpriced for what it offers.
