Yep, it means you'll change trains in Basel. Be sure you don't also have to change stations as well. It appears you will arrive in Basel at the SNCF sttion and depart from the SBB (Swiss railways) station. I'm having a problem finding out how close together they are, but one map indicates they are side-by-side. Be prepared to schlep your luggage.
Ugly hour to have to change trains, eh?
A T2 is a sleeping compartment with two beds in it, one above the other. There may be a small sink and vanity in the corner. It is what you want, assuming there are two of you.
I haven't done any train travel that far south, mine being from Brussels north and in Scandinavia, but I'm assuming it's pretty much the same. My wife and I and our four year old daughter get a T3 compartment, which is stacked three beds high, and, wow, is that top bed up high! FYI, T4 and T6 compartments are stacked 2x2 and 3x2, aisle in the middle, and you generally share the compartment with strangers.
