We love Umbria, and will spend another three weeks relaxing in the summer sun there this year. We enjoy finding a base for one-three weeks somewhere in the Italian countryside and seeing the area. Umbria is beautiful, with plenty of less touristy hill towns and ruins. We have a 5 year old and take him every summer to Italy - well, actually we reward ourselves and take him along for the ride:) - and have had many interesting experiences with him at different ages. Family travel definately requires a bit more planning and a willingness to be flexible, but it's well worth it!
