Hi Ziners;
On a day we would want to play tourist in Philadelphia it would begin with a train ride to the old Reading Terminal. On a nice day, which is alien in Philadelphia lately, a walk to the Italian Market for breakfast and some food shopping. A carriage ride then to Olde City Historic Philadelphia and exploring The wonderfully preserved origins of the USA. (The brand new Constitution Center and Liberty Bell display are scheduled to open July 4th)Then allow some time to explore the Mummers museum before returning to the Reading Terminal Market for lunch break. Heading west I would then take in The Franklin Institute followed by The Philadelphia Museum of Art. A short walk north and then the imposing walls of the Eastern State Penitentiary built in the 1800's by the Quakers and now a museum. To finish the day my choice would be dinner at either Jack's Firehouse, owned and operated by Jack McDavid of Food Network's Grillin & Chillin fame. or the London Grille which offers fish & chips which are decent and close to those enjoyed at Geaele's in London. We only touched my highlights and we try to spend a Philly weekend once a year. The city of Philadelphia does offer the Go Phila program. Vince & Gerry in soggy suburbs of Philadelphia |
