We've rented cars in Europe for the last 10 years or so and have found
it a great way to get around to small towns and villages that are not
easily accessible by public transit. Driving in Provence is no
problem, just remember that when you are on the highways, the French
drive very fast.
If you plan to arrive by TGV in Avignon, you might consider Orange and Nimes for visits. They are both close to Avignon and can be managed in a day. You'll want to explore Avignon itself and that could easily take up one day. Lucy
