There are also fast shuttle boats between BA and Montevideo and with less hassle than getting to and from airports, checking in, waiting, etc. etc.
I don't know if the status is still the same, but when I flew through the BA airport on the way to Montevideo, the Uruguay immigration form and formalities were done at the BA airport. When you arrived at the Montevideo airport, you walked right through without any kind of a check of passports or papers.
Also, once you had gone through the Uruguay immigration, at the BA airport, there was only one (not very good) food choice and no chance to return to find something else.
