Hi Brenda and Hans, I agree with the suggestion to stay in Bayeux. Caen is rather large, though the musuem is easy to get to as it's right off the periphique. Allow yourselves at least 2-3 hours in the Caen Memorial Musuem. It is very nicely done. There are also several restaurant options in the museum (a sit down buffet, a cafeteria style line and a sandwich counter).

I would also recommend renting a car to see the area. Arm yourself with a good Michelin map and you'll do just fine. I was so glad we had a car because it allowed us to see sights when we wanted and spend as much or as little time as we wanted at each. (I really felt so sorry for those on tour buses!)

One other spot I haven't seen mentioned is Longues-sur-mer, there are several German bunkers remaining there and very interesting to see. It's in between Arromanches and Omaha Beach. You can even see the articial harbor remains at Arromanches from the bunkers.

Have a great time! Jennie in Atlanta
