check out the att wireless website and find the link to pay as you go phones. i have one that i use when i visit the united states and it is charged with power and minutes when i leave the plane. inorder to maintain the number and the existing minutes, i add minutes here from jerusalem every six weeks, using a ten dollar card. you have a choice of plans, either national or local, so it would depend on your itinerary. the price per minute charge is not cheap, but it is handy for my month's visit.
att has very good support and, at least in the communities that i visit, i can always pop in a store with a problem or question. i have had my phone for about four years. i think that you can now add minutes automatically every month through their website and with a credit card.
