Good notes, though I'm shocked that Harry's Cafe de Wheels is not mentioned! A trip to Sydney is nothing without a visit there for pie and peas! Open almost 24 hours.
Other good cheap eats are Darling Street Thai and Paddington's Bar on Oxford Street.
On Manley Beach I highly recommend The Kiosk restaurant for lunch or dinner. Moderately priced. And I totally agree with the recommendation of the Admiral Nelson Pub - I had the best grilled octopus there than anywhere in the world.
For fabulous Mod Oz cuisine there's Tetsuya, Salt, and the originator of it all, Neil Perry's places, RockPool (in the Rocks) and Bistro Mars.
Foods not to be missed are kangaroo, emu, Coral Trout, Barramundi and of course, Bugs, as you mentioned. All complemented with a wonderful Shiraz, of course!
Yes, an umbrella and sunblock are two essentials on anyone's packing list and surely both will be used in the same day. As Sydneysiders say If you don't like the weather here, just wait 15 minutes.
We're hoping for another visit to Oz in January, so I hope that some people will have some new restaurant recommendations by then! :-)
