I have two suggestions. One, for insurance, go to a website called http://www.insuremytrip.com On that website, you can plug in your needs and the website will then give you a list of insurance companies that will offer the coverage you desire.
Secondly, why not simply ask Virgin? Call them and say, I booked a trip trip with you, travelling on UA, what happens if they go out of business? I'm sure you'll get the answer that they'll simply change carriers, there must be a paragraph in their contract that covers that. Branson is a very smart guy, I'm sure he has Plan B in the event of a problem with the chosen carrier.
