Thanks for the info. The hydrofoil is the way to go! No desire to spend 2 hours on a ferry. Also, thanks for the restaurant info.
What are macadam roads that we have to be careful of?
Good to know that the best time for Tasmania is February, in terms of the weather.
However, I think that News Year's is the best time to visit Hobart, Tasmania. Two reasons: The famous Sydney to Hobart yacht race 12/26 - 1/3m when all the boats are in town and racers from all over the world are in town. And, the incredible Taste of Tasmania festival. That takes place the first week of the year and a huge football field sized area is set up by the docks and hundreds of food growers & wineries set up booths and tout their bounty. You can enjoy items like emu in every form - from pizza to sausage to carpaccio - fish 'n chips, incredible cheeses, fresh from the farm berries with organic whipped creme, baked items with local fruits and/or herbs and of course, wonderful local wines and beers. Additionally, there are free indoor/outdoor concerts, circus acts, performance arts. In my opinion, it's the best time to be in Tassie.
Thanks again. Candice NYC
